—Wholly Holy Flip

The Runaway (with his immaculate ear for music) informed me that I flipped the cover of the classic Marvin Gaye tune Wholly Holy by John Legend & The Roots off of the great and underrated Wake Up record. I saved it in my sample bank as “Wholly Holy” and some how I was confused. I am embarrassed. Someday I will be as well listened as folks like Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff, and The Runaway.

Marvin Gaye was an incredible artist. I was introduced to him through my friend Harvey at my first digging spot Into The Music in the area known as The Exchange in downtown Winnipeg. He picked out the CD What’s Going On? and said “I think you’d like this”.
The story about the Wake Up record is much less cool. I saw it as I was buying coffee at a Starbucks and picked it up.
I was at home looking through some music and was inspired to see what I could do with this one.
Its not a great sounding mp3. Not a lot of compression. If you turn it up enough though the kick really thumps.

We’ve got a whole lot to learn.
